DAY 1 — Drive out of the valley toward Bidur in Nuwakot — either along the Trishuli Highway (Balaju–Kakani–Trishuli) or up over the quieter Tokha–Gurje Bhanjyang road, which rejoins the highway near Bidur — then push on into Kispang. The blacktop gives way to a rough hill road for the final climb to Bhalche (~5 h total). Settle into a Tamang homestay, walk the village and rhododendron-forest trails, and watch the sun set over the Ganesh Himal ridgeline. Evenings often bring home-cooked dal bhat, butter tea, and Tamang Selo songs. DAY 2 — Rise early for sunrise over Langtang and Ganesh Himal, then hike up to the bheda farm — one of Nepal's largest sheep farms — spread across the high grazing pastures above the village. Mailung Waterfall (Bhange Jharana)
A full-day adventure ride to one of the most spectacular waterfalls within striking distance of Kathmandu — originally named Bhange Jharana, and now widely known as Mailung after the nearby Mailung Khola. Leave the valley early via Tokha/Kakani, drop to Bidur and Battar in Nuwakot, and follow the Trishuli upstream to Betrawati (smooth blacktop, ~2.5 h). From Betrawati, a rugged ~10 km off-road track (≈1 h) climbs the river gorge to the foot of the ~150 m Mailung (Bhange) falls. Cool off in the pool, scramble to the viewpoint above the village (~15 min), or take the steeper 2–3 h hike to the upper base. Several smaller cascades line the same gorge. Best done as a self-ride or private 4WD day trip — there is no direct bus. The off-road section is rough and slippery after rain, so it suits dual-sport bikes and high-clearance vehicles. Allow ~7 h of driving round-trip; many riders add a homestay night to slow it down.
