Bhalche Sheep Farm Weekend Getaway

A 2-day Tamang-village and high-pasture escape into the hills of Nuwakot — far enough to feel remote, close enough for a Kathmandu weekend. DAY 1 — Drive out of the valley toward Bidur in Nuwakot — either along the Trishuli Highway (Balaju–Kakani–Trishuli) or up over the quieter Tokha–Gurje Bhanjyang road, which rejoins the highway near Bidur — then push on into Kispang. The blacktop gives way to a rough hill road for the final climb to Bhalche (~5 h total). Settle into a Tamang homestay, walk the village and rhododendron-forest trails, and watch the sun set over the Ganesh Himal ridgeline. Evenings often bring home-cooked dal bhat, butter tea, and Tamang Selo songs. DAY 2 — Rise early for sunrise over Langtang and Ganesh Himal, then hike up to the bheda farm — one of Nepal's largest sheep farms — spread across the high grazing pastures above the village. Meet the herders, watch the flock work the hillside, and soak in the views before descending and driving back to Kathmandu by evening. No technical skills are needed; moderate fitness handles the village and pasture walks. The rough mountain road is the real effort, not the hiking. Bhalche is also the launch point for the longer Singla Pass / Ganesh Himal trek if you want to push further.
