Bagdwar via Pani Muhan Forest Trail

A quieter, slightly shorter approach to the Bagmati source through the Pani Muhan section of Shivapuri NP. This route takes you through dense mixed forest, past several streams and stone water spouts, before emerging at the Bagdwar clearing — a wide forest glade shaded by ancient oaks where the Bagmati begins as a clear mountain spring. Unlike the main Bagdwar trail, this route sees fewer visitors and stays closer to the stream bed for most of its length. The pace is gentler, with gentler gradients making it accessible to less experienced hikers. Locals refer to this section as "Pani Muhan" — the water mouth — named for the springs that feed the Bagmati here. A good option for those who want the forest experience without the steep climb to the waterfall's top. The trail ends at the same Bagdwar shrine and spring as the main route.
